Transjakarta will soon be using domestically manufactured electric buses. These electric buses are made by the Laksana Bus Manufacturer coachbuilder, which is based in Central Java, Indonesia.
Quoted from Chrystian R. M. Pohan, Vice President Corporate Secretary of DAMRI Indonesia, “For the selection of the Laksana coachbuilder (karoseri), we deferred to the APM (Brand Principal Agent) because, technically, they have already gone through a development process so that the compatibility between the chassis and the coachwork has been tested.”
Currently, the electric buses that have arrived in Jakarta are undergoing trials for Transjakarta Corridor 2A, serving the Pulogadung-Rawabuaya route. For this first procurement of local electric buses, DAMRI Indonesia has ordered 80 units for Transjakarta.
Furthermore, Semarang, which is in the same province as the Laksana Bus base in Ungaran, also has the potential to become a target for electric bus expansion. One of Laksana's electric bus models, the Nucleus 6, recently caught the attention of the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, during the Government Auto Show Commercial Vehicle Expo (GAS CVE) 2025 held at Lanumad Ahmad Yani, Semarang.
"Yesterday, we also met with the Governor of Central Java. He even joked, 'Eh, this looks good for TransJateng (Trans Central Java),'" said Singgih Eko Yudistiro, Brand & Marketing Communication Manager of Laksana Bus Manufacturer.
The expansion of electric buses in Indonesia also observed from the successful conclusion of Busworld Southeast Asia 2024¸which was held in Jakarta and organized by GEM Indonesia. Busworld Southeast Asia 2024 successfully brought together 48 exhibitors and over 4,500 visitors from 33 countries.
